Chim wrote: Hi. It's me again. Did you design that sparesomechange webpage? Cool. That's great. I wanted to comment to you that it might be interesting for you to blog a little about what it's like to be homeless on your page. It would help to make people socially aware of what it's like. I read Moon Palace by Paul Auster the main character describes what it like to end up in the streets. It left a mark on me, that description did. My son (he's 13) recently had to do a presentation about solidarity and he spoke about how everyone can do very small things in their very own neighborhood to help the less fortunate... one needn't go to India. But he asked me what someone his age could really do to help the less fortunate. Do't you think that understanding would be a step in the right direction? The homeless often make people feel awkward... so they look away. I never know what to do with myself when I see someone down and out... I mean, you give them some coins - ok, spare change - but then you walk on... which feels so unfair. Yet it doesn't have meaning to stop and invite them to my home for dinner... i don't know them. Should I say hello... I don't do that with other strangers. I don't know. Tell me waht your thoughts are - only if you want to. If not, that's cool, too!

Yes, I made www.SpareSomeChange.com, I know what homeless need from my own past homelessness, so I am trying to make a decent helpful site that anyone living on the streets can remember the domain name easily until the get to the library.

I will make a personalized bloggings about my experiences (may not have it associated with the site as it would not be professional). I have just been so busy making the search engine and promoting it. Also I was afraid people may concider me to be a whiner, but you reassured me people want to hear stories of homelessness.

I don't think you should treat the homeless extra special, but giving them money is more than you would do for any other pedestrian on the street. So I think that is plenty, no need to take them shopping or invite them into your home (never invite strangers). I sometimes make care packages to hand out (if I can afford), more stuff you can do here.

GUY....."Come On Man"... I read all your printed material and let me say this. This is not meant in a hurtful way because pal "We've Been There". We have raised 3 kids (I'm 50 and my wife's 47) and want to ask you some things. How do you justify $400.00 to $500.00 a month for rent. We rent an old farmhouse for $175.00, watch what we eat and eat what we want, drive a 1989 Blazer and have cable, internet and a hell of a good computer. My wife makes MINIMUM WAGE and I get $346.00 a MONTH Disability. When I could work I was NEVER out of a job. Most of them SUCKED, but so does no supper. I don't understand the "trade sex for rent" BS because it sounds like just plain lazy to me and I'm sorry. I also don't understand the enormous amount of wasted space complaining about your past life. We NEVER DID and NEVER WILL want all the people around us feeling sorry for us. You had a bad life....DEAL WITH IT...WE DID!!!! and we are at the bottom of the barrel now and happy as clams. Another thing...WHY???did the "PC Equipment go to storage and not the PAWN SHOP? You could have paid on a loan just the same as paying for storage. I hope you DO afterall get pissed off at me because if this letter KICKS YOU IN THE ASS and you get out there and put your talents to work then you can hate me forever as long as your life gets better. AND...............just in case you wonder why this letter is at 03:45 in the morning it's because I'm on my 7th surgery (Broken Back) along with Diabetes and a long list of others and sleep is now a luxury. Next time you think you have it so bad...TRADE WITH ME>>>ANYTIME...but do "GET OFF YOUR BUTT" and DO IT BIG TIME for nobody other than yourself. Good Luck man...and God Bless. Your site is VERY VERY PROFESSIONAL. Don't waste your talents. At least I BY GOD had the PRIDE not to ask everybody for everything from money to digital cameras to servers. Try asking for a Yacht next time as the sea air would be good for you. NO MORE E-MAILS FROM ME and PLEASE DON'T reply as you'll never get past any server here :-)

I live in the city (why rent so much),  I need to live in the city near my heart specialists. Cars in the city for me would be 200 bucks a month just for insurance, then another 200 for parking. Rent for a bachelor apartment here is $400-900 a month (Canadian), one bedrooms are 700-1200, two bedrooms are 1000-2000! Things are different once you leave farm country! My cable internet costs my 80-100 dollars a month (not residential like you have, things are different when you run your own server). So good for you that you live in the middle of no where, I would too if I was settled with a wife and kids and didn't have to worry about having strokes because I cannot afford a pace maker.

I do deal with my past just fine. I figured because I have a homeless site, I should explain why I have been homeless in the past somewhat, sheeze. Plus I am writing a book and my blogs are point forms to follow. If you do not link my stories, then go to another website!

I am off my butt, working on my own business and may have a contract for a couple grand to build a site (think its gonna be a done deal, I hope so). My talents are going to efforts such as
a few web businessess: www.Canuckster.com (Canadian PPC search engine), www.9lbs.com (web design, already had a few past clients) and others that are not yet complete. Sorry I could not instantly be successful! I also have www.FriendlyCanadian.com for sale, if it sells, smooth sailing for a while and I can hire some helpers to "get me off my butt".

WASTE MY TALENTS? Yeah, guess trying to help homeless people is a waste LOL! NOT, I will never stop wasting my talents on helpful sites as no one else with the talents would bother due to negative attitudes!

I have left stuff at pawn shops only to return to find it gone, pawn shops can be a scam and I ahve been scammed! I used to be in a band until I hawked my wares to the scam pawn shop, lost my amp, keyboard and lot of extras! I would rather pay 60 bucks for an insured space at Uhaul Storage thanks very much!

You may not complain about the past, but you sure complain a lot about me!

P.S. Thanks for the email, I do like all comments... But I have a right to stick up for myself!!

...Keep it strong David! Your site is a big hit. Bigger than all those who oppose you. Best Wishes, a donation is on the way.

Thank you, positive reinforcement is a good gift to me :) It is hard doing all this hard work (about 1,000 hours or more so far) and have others (claiming to also help the homeless) mock my services and intentions.

Best Homeless Resource Site Yet!,
What a great resource! A friend of mine in California was facing homelessness, but I was able to give him several resources to contact which I found through this "Homeless Search Engine" on www.SpareSomeChange.com which were of great help to him. He now has a place (shared) that a local organization helped him with a small check and a housing worker :)

Amazing that the founder of this site would do so much to help poor people as he himself is in the poverty range and constantly facing homelessness day to day.

I made a PayPal donation to this site (I was the first). I will try to make another donation this spring.

TO THE OWNER:

Please promise me that you (founder of Homeless Search Engine) will keep this site up and running for the world to view if I make more donations (one every 4-5 months). If I find a "winfall", I will help you afford the costs for getting registered as a real charity

I promise to keep this site running, it means too much to me because of my past homelessness! I always promised myself  I would do what I could to help the homeless when it was possible. It is not financially sound timing, but homeless people can't wait until I fully afford all services.

I emailed you a week or so ago. I like your website.  It is very comprehensive and well-laid out.  I plan to spend more time going through all of the good information...

...I have worked on homelessness issues for over 30 years in all regions of the country.

I look forward to studying your website.  Perhaps when I am retired or unemployed, I will have time to do what you are doing.  Thanks for putting all of your hard work into this.  It is much needed and appreciated.

Sincerely,

*******

Thanks for the compliments :) Gives me more hope to continue this hard work
for free (almost 1,000 hours of programming and submitting links so far).

David,
I have "registered" our URL with your organization, and added a link from
your site to
ours. You might be interested in our Community Voice Mail program---we are
the co-founders of the original program! See more information about it at:

Keep up the good work!
David

Thanks for linking to me, I cannot afford too much web promotion, so every link on another page helps out much, thanks again! Linking to me is equivalent to a $10 bill in my mind!

This is my first request, and hopefully will be my last, that you take
off any and all links on/from your site to my site.   I do not approve of
your tactics and do not wish to be associated with you or your site in
anyway whatsoever.

Do not, in anyway whatsoever, make any association between your site and
mine, including the use of your banners showing on any of my pages.

Failure to end these practices will result in further action.

Hmmn, I don't have a banner (web image with size 468X60 pixels) any where on the "page framer", closest image I have to that size on that frame is my Homeless Search Engine logo (120X59 pixels I believe) which I refuse to remove as my tactic is to show pages trusted in a framed environment with ability to further search the internet from the top! It is not illegal to link to your domain name as you can see some government and organizational sites doing (even NASA) HERE as proof!
